Texas Department of Insurance must work to reduce home insurance costs, Gov. Abbott says

Texas aims to make homeowners insurance more affordable by promoting market competition and banning excessive or unfair rate setting. The state faces the fourth-highest home insurance premiums nationally, with average costs nearly doubling since 2016. New policies include prohibiting denial of coverage based on property age, banning price optimization, creating a fraud task force, and considering roof fortification in rates. Legislative recommendations are due by mid-September.

  • Texas Premiums Rise in Plan Year 2027 | #Amaliatuagentedesegurosentexas

In Texas, health, dental and vision premiums are increasing for Plan Year 2027. Retiree rates changed Sept. 1, with more changes Jan. 1, 2027.
Texas will continue paying 100% of health premiums for eligible retirees, so many will not feel higher health plan costs in Plan Year 2027.
Higher 2027 costs can affect retirees lacking full state support, part-time retirees, households covering dependents, survivors, and others without a state premium contribution.
Texas said higher care use and rising medical, drug, and vision costs drove changes. Dental and vision increases are meant to support access and coverage.
Vision premiums also rise to support continued coverage, and Texas said updated premium details for retirees with federal coverage will be posted in Early-Q4.

  • Texas Acts on Property Insurance Costs | #Amaliatuagentedesegurosentexas

State leaders said rising homeowners' insurance costs prompted action, and the state regulator outlined steps meant to protect consumers and improve property coverage affordability.
Insurers were directed to reflect fortified roof status in rate setting, so premiums better match lower risk for those homes in Texas.
A planned rule would clarify insurers cannot use property age, or a roof component's age, to refuse new policies or residential renewals.
Texas also moved to enforce its existing ban on price optimization, create a fraud task force, and review AI use in claims and underwriting.
By year-end 2026, the regulator planned a web study on claim-cost drivers, while state leaders prepared additional consumer-protection proposals for the next session.

  • Texas Hospitals Regain Medicaid Support | #Amaliatuagentedesegurosentexas

Texas said nearly $12B in public health funding would be restored, covering hospitals, physicians, rural clinics, nursing facilities, and behavioral health providers statewide.
State leaders said the restored funding would help keep emergency rooms open, preserve local care for rural families, and maintain treatment access statewide.
The halt began on Sept. 1, at the start of Texas' new fiscal year, and hospitals were slated to lose $27M per day.
Hospital leaders said the impasse had been averted, allowing facilities to focus again on caring for Texans after nearly a year of uncertainty.
The funding helps close the gap between public coverage reimbursements and hospitals' actual treatment costs for low-income Texans, though transfer timing was not immediately clear.
